About the Cambridge Diabetes Education Programme (CDEP)
A diabetes competency-based e-learning platform
The Cambridge Diabetes Education Programme (CDEP) was designed and tested by a multi-disciplinary, diabetes specialist team, consisting of nurses, dietitians, podiatrists, health care assistants, general practitioners and hospital consultants.
It is based on the UK, nationally recognised, diabetes framework of competencies for healthcare practitioners, to ensure that they have the right diabetes skills and knowledge to support patients living with diabetes.About the Cambridge Diabetes Education Programme (CDEP)

LEARNING DISABILITIES, AUTISM & DIABETES
This topic is designed to raise awareness of the impact of living with a learning disability, autism and diabetes.
Depending on selected CDEP level, it focuses on how to:
appreciate the challenges of living with a learning disability, autism and diabetes;
be aware of the support required to live well with a learning disability, autism and diabetes.

SAFE USE OF INSULIN IN THE COMMUNITY
This topic is designed to reduce the risk of insulin error and is essential training for all health and social care staff supporting people living with insulin-treated diabetes in an outpatient, community or care setting.
Depending on selected CDEP levels, it focuses on:
Function, use and side effects of insulin therapy
Right timing of insulin doses in common scenarios
How to competently inject insulin, if trained to do so
Common insulin errors and how they can be prevented

With the right training and clinical supervision, unregistered healthcare staff can be supported to efficiently deliver 8 of these diabetes care processes. *Retinal screening needs to be done by appropriately trained staff with suitable retinal photography equipment.
