OVERVIEW
This evidence-based, two-day, comprehensive workshop aims to develop the clinical knowledge and examination skills of Nurses and Allied Health Professionals working in first contact care. The course covers a wide range of commonly presenting gynaecological conditions.
Contents are underpinned by reference to contemporary national guidelines and competences, from organisations such as the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE); Public Health England (PHE); the Royal College of Obstetricians Gynaecologists (RCOG) and the Royal College of Nursing (RCN)
CONTENT
Commonly presenting conditions include:
Disorders of the vulva and vagina
Update on sampling, cytology and colposcopy
Abnormal vaginal bleeding and discharge
Menstrual disorders
Pelvic pain related to common gynaecological disorders
Commonly presenting cancers of the female genital tract
Problems in early pregnancy
Menopausal problems and associated treatmentsGenital prolapse and insertion of vaginal ring pessaries
Clinical skills:
Taking a gynaecological history
Bi-manual examination of the female genital tract
Correct insertion of Sims’s and Cusco’s specula
Update regarding investigations and sampling
Diagnosis and assessment of vaginal prolapse
Fitting of ring pessaries
Legal and professional accountability
AIMS AND OUTCOMES
Develop a comprehensive understanding of common gynaecological conditions and their management.
Develop clinical examination skills of the female genital tract.
Anticipate and understand appropriate investigation and treatment of the presenting conditions.
