Hypertension training is essential for healthcare professionals to effectively identify, manage, and support patients with high blood pressure.

One of the most common and significant risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

The below training opportunities equip staff with up-to-date knowledge on diagnosis, treatment guidelines, lifestyle interventions, and the use of digital tools in hypertension management.

This valuable training is available through the Hertfordshire and West Essex Training Hub, which supports the development of the primary care workforce by offering accessible and high-quality educational opportunities tailored to local needs.

  • The Essentials of Hypertension - Essex Equip: The Essentials of Hypertension - Essex Equip

    This is an interactive case-study-based session, where you can test out your knowledge and understanding of all things blood pressure related in a safe, supportive environment.

    The session will cover:

    • Why blood pressure matters – brief background information

    • Hypertension – what is it and why does it happen? (includes risk factors and pathophysiology)

    • Making the diagnosis

    • The place for CVD risk assessment in people with hypertension

    • Lifestyle interventions that work

    • Medication – the basics

    • Monitoring – BP, bloods and beyond

HCAs provide a valuable service in primary care, supporting nurse and GP colleagues to ensure that people living with long-term conditions have the information they need, in order to achieve the best outcomes.  These 2 half day sessions address the ‘need to know’ elements for a range of areas covered by health care assistants at all levels.

This event will be delivered online and is suitable for Nurses, AHPs GPs and Pharmacists who would like to understand more about the diagnosis and management of diabetes.  The day also enables you to network with colleagues and counts as 6 hours of CPD, using a collaborative learning approach, for your revalidation. By the end of the day, delegates will have developed their knowledge of:

About

This event will be delivered online and is suitable for Healthcare Professionals who are involved in the management of people with type 2 diabetes.

The aim of  the session is to equip delegates with an evidence based approach to the holistic management of type 2 diabetes .

Hypertension Masterclasses: Hypertension Masterclass - Education For Health

A 90-minute session exploring hypertension best practice, and ‘ask the expert’ opportunity

There has never been a better time to update your CVD knowledge and know-how. Hypertension has been highlighted in the Core20PLUS5 approach as one the key clinical areas for accelerated improvement, and our 90-minute masterclass will explore how to effectively diagnose and support patients with hypertension. Whether you are in a new role and want to refine your blood pressure measuring technique, or you are a more experienced clinician who has questions about challenging cases, this CPD-accredited workshop is for you.

Increase your knowledge and know-how

Led by an experienced clinical specialist and facilitator, the Hypertension Masterclass will cover the following content:

  • How to spot hypertension – signs, symptoms, and risk factors

  • Practicalities of blood pressure measurement, and the importance of validated blood pressure monitors

  • Prevalence of hypertension: who does it affect, and what is the impact?

  • Tips for non-pharmacological management

  • What medications and when?

This session will highlight the relationship between health inequalities and effective hypertension case-finding and management, so you are encouraged to think about your local practice population as you listen. You will then have the opportunity to ask questions of our expert facilitator – please do come prepared with any specific questions or issues you would like to discuss.

The Masterclass will last 90 minutes in total, with dedicated time for questions at the end.

Delivered via Microsoft Teams, the session will begin with a presentation from our expert clinical facilitator and offer opportunities for interactive discussion.

A half day course that looks at the implications of the recent NICE guideline changes to the management of hypertension. The course gives a brief introduction to the pathophysiology of hypertension and the ways in which it is investigated and treated.

About the Cambridge Diabetes Education Programme (CDEP)

A diabetes competency-based e-learning platform

The Cambridge Diabetes Education Programme (CDEP) was designed and tested by a multi-disciplinary, diabetes specialist team, consisting of nurses, dietitians, podiatrists, health care assistants, general practitioners and hospital consultants.

This topic is designed to raise awareness of the impact of living with a learning disability, autism and diabetes.

Depending on selected CDEP level, it focuses on how to:

Depending on selected CDEP levels, it focuses on:

  • Right timing of insulin doses in common scenarios

  • How to competently inject insulin, if trained to do so

  • Common insulin errors and how they can be prevented

The Training Hub will review and respond to your funding request. If funding is approved, it will be your responsibility to book your place on the course you wish to attend, we will provide the instructions to do this. Applications will be reviewed in order of the course date (soonest courses first) and date received. If you have any questions, please contact us at hwetraininghub@nhs.net.

Please note, you will need to send us your booking confirmation within 1 week of your funding being approved as places are limited. Failure to do this will result in your funding being withdrawn and you will need to reapply.
