Self-Management Support in Cancer Services

You have the chance to be involved in this NHS England funded project, that aims to embed self-management support across cancer pathways in the East of England. Teams that take part will receive high-quality training, implementation and sustainability support and evaluation of impact on clinical and team practice.

This builds on previous Quality Improvement Projects in the region, with over 200 staff trained so far.

Bridges have received funding for a new project to further this work – there are 150 fully funded training places available for patient facing staff in the East of England, and we are providing wraparound implementation and sustainability support as part of the project. These places are available on a first-come first-served basis and staff across the ICB are encouraged to take up this opportunity. More information on the training is attached.

BRIDGES SELF-MANAGEMENT TRAINING

The Bridges approach to self-management support has an extensive evidence base. Bridges training aims to build practitioners’:

  • Knowledge of Bridges core principles of personalised self-management support and Bridges’ underlying evidence base that supports its effectiveness

  • Skills and tools to embed the core principles throughout your clinical practice

  • Confidence in working in this way with patients and in teams

Bridges training is run in 4 x 2-hour interactive virtual workshops, in cohorts of 12 people, spread over 6 weeks. Training is delivered by two facilitators with clinical and lived experience. Participants will join others from cancer pathways across NHS services in the East of England to foster cross-learning.

After the training, all participants will receive additional implementation support, which can include coaching, resources and connection with other cancer healthcare practitioners.
