ENH HCA Training Dates - Wound and Leg Ulcer Assessment and Management
All staff treating patient wounds and lower limb ulceration are required to demonstrate an appropriate level of knowledge, understanding and competency, to deliver safe effective treatments. The level of training is dependent upon role, ranging from competency assessor to Health Care Assistant.
Please read the following pathway document to find out which training is appropriate for you. Training must be completed in order.
STEP 1 – Basic Wound Care
Complete self-directed eLearning modules
Wounds – the Basics (PowerPoint learning)
Log onto eLearning for Health (register if you don’t already have an account): NHSE elfh Hub search for titles below and pick > Wound Care Education for the Health and Care Workforce > Tier 1 Essentials
· Essentials of Leg Ulceration
· Nutrition and Lifestyle Considerations
Must be completed before attending Step 2 in person training
STEP 2 – General Wound Care - Virtual Half-Day Training online
Topics covered – opportunities for questions
· New approaches to holistic assessment
· Wound bed preparation
· Preventing and managing infection
· Debridement and exudate management
· Wound Care formulary dressings

Registration is required on first use, re open link to access page.
On completion you are required to email your certificate to the Training Hub, before attending face2face training.
STEP 4 – Half Day Face to Face practical training (HCA only)

STEP 5 – Competency sign-off
Arrange signing off competences with a named competency assessor. This will likely take several sessions of observation.
Named Competency Assessor - Each PCN/GP surgery must have at least one Registered Healthcare Professional who can sign off competencies. For information about named competency assessor, see training for Registered Health Care Professionals.
