West Essex Leg Ulcer and Lower Limb Training Dates

Two day Access 2 Compress Training (formerly Leg Ulcer Management Training)
For General Practice Nurses or Nursing Associates who have no skills in leg ulcer management or those that need complete re-training.
Venue: Latton Bush, Harlow
Times: 0900 - 1630 (both days must be attended.
· Theory refresher
· Practical application of compression therapy
· Doppler theory
· Manual Doppler procedures and interpretation of results
Who Can Attend?
Open to all Registered Staff who wish to become competent in lower limb management and compression therapy.
Must have completed Tier 1 and Tier 2 ELFH for Leg Ulcer Theory and Compression Therapy (this will be sent as e-learning once booking is accepted).
Community supervision by a competent practitioner (outside of the community leg ulcer clinic) is essential following E-Learning and Practical LU training days to consolidate training.
Evidence of e-learning completion and the name of your mentor will be required when booking and again on the training date.

One-day Leg Ulcer Refresher Training
For General Practice Nurses or Nurse Associates who are competent and currently practicing lower limb care that want a refresher and to be able to sign off staffs competencies once they have completed the Access 2 Compress Training.
Venue: Latton Bush, Harlow
Times: 0900 - 1600
Comprehensive refresher training to ensure your skills are up-to-date with the latest best practices and techniques.
· Introduction by the Wound Care Team: Including information on the new compression formulary and leg ulcer pathway
· Case studies and presentations
· Informal discussions around barriers to compression in practice
· Safe listening space: Open discussions in a supportive environment
· Skills stations: Practice and refresh your compression techniques
Who can attend? Open to Registered Nursing and Nursing Associates who have previously completed training in leg ulcer management and are using their skills in practice.

HCA Lower Limb (non compression) & Wound Care One Day Training
For HCAs (Band 2 or 3)
Venue: Latton Bush, Harlow
Times: 0900 - 1200 OR 1300 - 1600
Course Content
· Understanding lower limb skin health
· Common Conditions affecting lower limbs.
· Factors influencing Skin Health
· 2 Layer non-compression bandage practical workshop

Who can attend? Open to all HCA’s in West Essex who care for patients with lower limb issues and wish to improve their skills.

Immediate and Necessary Care Pathway and First-Line Care for Lower Limb Wounds
Please note, this session will not cover Level One care. Instead, the focus will be on building clinician confidence in:
Initiating light compression without Doppler assessment
Identifying and ruling out red flags
Applying the pathway effectively in practice
This event will take place during Protected Time to Learn and are open to Nurses, AHPs and HCAs:

Chronic Oedema/Lymphoedema
For staff already competent and practicing in lower limb management.
This is an advanced practice session that will focus on:
Patients with chronic oedema
The pathophysiology of the lymphatic system
How to manage this patient demographic and their complex needs
Practical Skills for Clinical Application
Delivered by Mel McCann, Lymphoedema Specialist and Lead Clinician for Herts and West Essex lymphoedema Service, supported by the West Essex Tissue Viability/Leg Ulcer Team and industry partners.
