Health and Wellbeing

The NHS People Plan sets out a series of national health and wellbeing ambitions that aim to create cultures of wellbeing across the NHS, where colleagues feel looked after and cared for. Through the response to the pandemic and now more than ever, our NHS people deserve a comprehensive package of emotional, psychological and practical health and wellbeing support.

As well as the national intentions outlined in the NHS People Plan, a range of guides, apps and resources that aim to support both your individual wellbeing and that of your team are available at www.england.nhs.uk/people

You can also contact the national team by email ournhspeople.hwb@nhs.net or Twitter: @people_nhs

The NHS People Plan 2020-21 sets out an ambition:

“From September 2020, every member of the NHS should have a health and wellbeing conversation and develop a personalised plan. These conversations may fit within an appraisal, job plan or one-to-one line management discussion, and should be reviewed at least annually. As part of this conversation, line managers will be expected to discuss the individual’s health and wellbeing, and any flexible working requirements, as well as equality, diversity and inclusion.”

Health and Wellbeing in Hertfordshire and West Essex:

In HWE we are committed to enacting this ambition by creating one workforce across Hertfordshire and West Essex; delivering high quality, seamless and person centred care. At the core of the plan is still the aspiration to create ‘one workforce for health and social care in Hertfordshire and West Essex’ but aligned to the four foundations of the national People Plan:

  • Looking after our people (supporting the health and wellbeing of staff)

  • Belonging in health and social care

  • New ways of working and delivering care

  • Growing for the future

Today, SAMF is a growing and active mutual membership of doctors. With as many doctors joining to help their colleagues as join to receive support themselves.
The Society’s activities are overseen by our Court of Directors, which is comprised of respected medical colleagues. They meet quarterly to consider new applications for membership and requests for assistance.

The Court of Directors works closely with people applying for funds to best understand their needs and how SAMF can contribute towards a pivotal change in their circumstances.

The Society has a particular interest in helping medical students who are themselves the sons or daughters of doctors. Naturally it is hoped that they may themselves become members in due course and ensure the future of the Society.

After nearly two-and-a-half centuries providing a life-line to the people in whose hands we put our trust and lives, SAMF continues looking to the future:

Supporting doctors practically and financially in times of need

Acting quickly so members can regain their equilibrium and thrive again

Making a contribution to the medical profession

Funding colleagues in need
