Paramedic
Paramedics are employed by a single General Practice or by a Primary Care Network (PCN). Paramedics work at a variety of levels ranging from trainee First Contact Practitioner (FCP), to qualified Advanced Clinical Practitioner level (ACP). The training hub is able to support Paramedics, wherever they are in their career in primary care by providing access to information on funding, development and training to help enhance and embed core fundamentals and progress their career.
At the bottom of this page you will find courses currently available to paramedics but please do contact the training hub on hwetraininghub@nhs.net if you would like funding for a course not listed.
First contact practitioner pathway:
In April 2021 Health Education England (HEE) released the Paramedic Roadmap to Practice.
This details the First contact practitioner pathway for Paramedics in Primary care. All Paramedics moving into primary care will need to follow the roadmap pathway to prove capability and to assure patient safety. Completion of the FCP pathway is also contractually required for those Paramedics employed using the additional role reimbursement scheme (ARRS).
It is also expected that Paramedics already working in primary care who are not Advanced Clinical Practitioners will also complete the pathway as this may be asked for by CQC as evidence of clinician capability.
In order to gain FCP status the Paramedic must complete a portfolio and be signed off by a named FCP supervisor. The HEE website gives information about who is eligible to become an FCP supervisor and the current training dates available.
