Locum Chambers:

Locum Chambers bring together a local community of GP locums where resources can be pooled, and this creates a holistic support network. Each Chambers nominates a locum as their Chambers lead and NASGP employs a Chambers manager and a clinical director to support the Chamber support team. The Chambers model provides five layers of support:

  • The Chambers team signposts GP locums to existing educational resources

  • If there is a specific educational need, the Chambers team can produce and provide these educational resources

  • Practice Induction Pack: this function allows the support team to add important local information such as guidelines, policies and procedures for access by the locums in the Chamber

  • Locums remain self-employed but all of the locums in a Chambers can work under the same Terms and Conditions

  • The support team nurtures relationships with the local practices and can centrally manage bookings

  • Social and professional meet-ups are arranged, giving the locums a sense of belonging and support

  • Monthly clinical governance meetings are arranged where locums can discuss clinical cases and obtain support from colleagues

  • Information around local clinical systems is provided to the locums

  • Locums can take part in audits and be aware of these taking place

This allows the locums to become involved in other local bodies such as the LMC or RCGP and thus take up leadership positions
